Lisää ovia - More doors

Olen tehnyt nyt vielä kaksi erilaista ovea. Ensimmäinen on ulkoeteisen ja eteisen välinen ovi. Koska eteiseen ei muuta ikkunaa tule, halusin tehdä ovesta ikkunallisen. Sen tekemiseen sitten menikin vähän kauemmin kuin ajattelin. Leikkasin kolmen millin puulevystä oven ja ikkuna-aukon katkoteräveitsellä, missä kesti aika kauan. Toinen aikaa vievä osuus oli kaivertaa pois puoli milliä puulevyn paksuudesta kolmen millin matkalta ikkuna-aukon reunoista. Siihen upotin ikkunamateriaalin, eli asetaattikalvon. Muutenkin tämän oven teko osoittautui monivaiheisemmaksi tavallisiin oviin verrattuna. Halusin varmistaa, ettei ikkunaan mene vahingossa maalia. Maalasin siis ensin oven toisen puolen kokonaan. Sitten maalasin toisen puolen ikkunaa kehystävien koristelistojen reunat ennen liimausta, jottei niitä tarvitse enää paikoillaan ollessa maalata.

I have now made two different doors from the one that I already talked about. The first is the one between hall and porch. Because the hall won't have any other windows, I wanted to make a door with a window. Making it took longer that I anticipated. I cut the door from a 3mm wood sheet and then I cut out the hole for the window. I did that with a craft knife, and it took quite a long time. Another thing that took a long time to do was to carve a 0,5mm deep and 3mm wide groove around the window hole. There I placed the window material, which is 0,5mm acetate sheet. Making this door also required more stages than the regular ones did. I wanted to make sure I wouldn't get any paint on the window. Therefore I first painted the other side of the door with the wood strips glued in place. Then In painted the wood strips that frame the window on the other side before gluing them, so I wouldn't have to do that when the window material was in place.

Toinen ovi on terassia varten. Halusin tehdä siitä lasioven. Jotta minun ei tarvitsisi taas käyttää hirveästi aikaa vielä isomman ikkuna-aukon leikkaamiseen, päätin tehdä tämän oven hieman eri tavalla. Minulla oli 10mm x 2mm puurimaa, josta tein oven kehykset. Liimasin niitä kolme päällekkäin. Keskimmäisen kerroksen rimat ovat toisin päin kulmista kuin ulointen kerrosten, jotta kehys pysyisi kasassa. Jouduin kuitenkin kaivertamaan samanlaisen puolen millin syvyisen ja kolme milliä leveän uran ikkunamateriaali varten. Kaiversin urat rimoihin ennen kuin liimasin mitään yhteen. Siinä vasta aikaa menikin, kun nämä rimat ovat kovaa mäntyä ja tuon toisen oven puulevy on jotain pehmeämpää materiaalia. Tämän oven kanssa tuli saranoidessa yllättävä ongelma. Nyt kun jokaisen rimakerroksen paksuus oli 2mm, niiden väli sijoittui juuri siihen kohtaan, mistä saranan naulojen piti mennä läpi. No, siinähän kävi niin, että naula työnsi rimoja erilleen ja alla näkyy lopputulos. Onneksi tuo ei paljoa tule näkymään, mutta ärsyttää se silti. Oven ristikko on tehty 3mm x 2mm mäntyrimasta ja se on molemmilla puolilla.

The other door is for the balcony and I wanted to make it a glass door. I didn't want to use that much time to cut even a bigger hole for the window, so I did this door a bit differently. I used 10mm x 2mm wood strip to make the door frame. I glued three of them on top each other to make the door 6mm thick. The strips in the centre layer overlap the outer layer in the corners and hold the frame together. However, I had to carve the same kind of groove for the window as I did with the other door. I carved it before I glued anything together. It took even more time than with the other door, because the wood strips are made from pine and the wood sheet in the other door is some softer wood. I had a surprising problem when I hinged this door. Now two of the layers happened to join in the same place where the nails were supposed to go through. Well, the result was that the nails pushed the wood strips apart. You can see the outcome underneath. Luckily, it won't be very visible but it still annoys me. The lattice is made of 3mm x 2mm wood strip and it's on both sides.

Sitten vielä vähän tarpeellisia työkaluja. Ohuella naulalla tein reiät ovenkahvoja varten. Saksilla ja katkoteräveitsellä taas irrotin vinoon ja väärään kohtaan menneitä saranoiden nauloja. Linkkuveitsen sivulla taas painoin saranoiden naulat kiinni.

Then some other useful tools. I made holes for the door handles with a thin nail. With small scissors and craft knife I took off the hinge nails that went crooked or in the wrong place. I pushed the hinge nails in place with the pocketknife's side.
